My name is Karleen Williams and I am an Education major at the University of Central Florida. The pictures above are of me completing service learning in the community. I am a full time student who likes to take walks, read and cook. I would like to be a teacher because I believe that the teaching profession gives a person the opportunity to touch the life of another person and see the long term effects of that work or influence through that person's growth. With many other professions the experience of seeing the effects of ones work on another person's life is lacking, so this is one reason why I would love to teach. My educational philosophy is similar to Essentialism, which is a belief that education is about high academic standards. The academic success of each student is my primary concern. I believe that each student can reach his or her full potential academically if the teacher has high expectations for them and motivates them. I also believe that a great teacher plays an active role in the well being of each student, being culturally competent at all times. I would like to teach English Language Arts at the K-12 level or in Middle school. Here is a sample powerpoint that I created for a kindergarten class.
